CAN YOU PROVE YOU ARE NOT A LIAR?
YOUR CUSTOMERS MUST TRUST YOU
With all of the cheating uncovered in the aftermath of the financial crisis--- the lies told by everyone from mortgage lenders to investment guru Bernie Madoff -- people are cynical. At this point in time with this combination of recession, unemployment, and tighter money, cynicism is without a doubt as high as I have ever seen. Trust is as low as I can ever recall. Having spent more than a few years working with entrepreneurs and business investors I know that this is not good. It is so damaging because business relationships are built on trust. My father, who spent many years with the telephone company, would describe an honest person as someone you could play checkers with over the phone. This is the kind of trust and honesty you want your customers to feel about you. Can you prove you can be trusted? Absolutely! We have many ways and ideas for you to prove this point. • Offer a guarantee. • Demonstrate that you can deliver. • Demonstrate that you can do the job.• Demonstrate that you can back up the time estimated to complete the project. Customers are cynical but they highly value trust. They are looking for people in business to tell them the truth and keep promises. If you do this you will keep customers and pick up customers from business that do not keep promises. Here is one way that I know these honest methods do work:

Maintain high quality rather than cutting corners. You should service existing customers rather than trying to be all things to all people. When you look at new markets to expand your merchandise, they should be things that offer value and quality, always sticking to your core values. This all deserves some very serious thought--if you do not want to have a place in this recession. PS. A personal note: Let me tell you why I love what I do. I love helping people be profitable and feel good about their business, even the ones looking to close their shop. I can help them have fun with their sale, make it a good memorable experience AND make money. The recession is on everyone’s mind, but it is not going to stop business and it will not stop the need for savvy marketers. That is why I love what I do, and why I focus on Wonderful Small Businesses!
